Welcome to Reception!

Our topic this half term is:

 No Place Like Home!

After discussing, the children decided they would like to learn about snow, ice and cold places this half term. We will begin our learning looking at winter time in Wales. We hope the weather will be on our side with lots of frost and snow to explore in our school grounds. We will be learning how ice is made, where it comes from and having a go at making our own.

We plan to find out what other countries have snow. We are particularly eager to learn about Lapland and Iceland! We are going to learn how people and animals live in these places.

Please make sure you have appropriate winter clothing to explore outdoors, as we will be taking the opportunity when the weather allows.

Reading Homework

Discussion/Reading books will be sent home every Friday. Books with words will begin to be sent home once your child has learnt the Read Write Inc Set 1 sounds and is able to confidently blend with these sounds.

Oxford Reading Buddy is an online reading platform that provides books for your child. This can be used in addition to your child's reading book. You can log in to access these at home.

Forest Friday

We access the outdoors throughout the week. However we particularly enjoy exploring and learning specific skills in our longer Forest Friday sessions. This term we will be exploring the signs of winter. This means we will be out in all weather. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing to comfortably participate on these days.

We will also develop our key PE skills such as jumping, balancing, rolling, throwing and catching.

Please see below for some useful and fun learning website links including the link to access your work on Google Classroom.
