Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today we were extremely priviledged to host two performances of the BBC NOW Orchestra, comprised of instrumentalists from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
We listened to a number of extracts from a variety of classical pieces. For many pupils this was the first time they had ever heard live classical music! It was a fantastic experience and we all enjoyed it a great deal!
On Tuesday 14th March, Claire from Dog's Trust visited our school as a further thank you for our Snoopy fundraising during the Summer term 2022. She led an informative assembly for Classes 3 - 6, then took individual workshops for the same classes.
On Wednesday March 1st, we held our Eisteddfodd in two parts in the school hall. Foundation Phase were first, with older pupils second. We sang a range of Welsh songs and were treated to Eisteddfod stories, poetry and dancing.
Each house colour had a points scorer, who added the totals after each set of results. An extremely close contest ended with Ty Melyn winning the overall Eisteddfod by a single point!
Today our Cwmfelin Primary school choir performed at the Maesteg Christmas Tree Festival at St. Michael's Church. The audience were treated to a variety of Christmas tunes, both old and new. The choir received numerous compliments on their performance and were an absolute credit to the school. All the lunchtime practices were worth it!
This morning, Class 4 were visited by Naturequest as part of the 'It's Your Valley, Love It, Don't Trash It' programme. Rebecca and Anne gave them a litter pick task in the school yard. They tallied the rubbish they found and were surprised that there was far more plastic than any other type of litter.
Class 4 then learnt about plastic pollution and how dangerous microplastics are to sea creatures when they enter the food chain.
As a result of participating in the workshop, the school now has a class set of litter picking clothing and equipment, so we can go out and keep the community litter free!
We would like to say a huge thank you to our Year 5 and 6 Pupil Councillors for attending the service held in Llangynywd Hall on Friday 11th November. They read a beautiful poem ‘The Serving Soldier’ and laid a poppy wreath to mark their respects.
On Sunday Year 6 Well-Being Leaders attended the Remembrance service in Maesteg Town and laid a wreath.
It is wonderful to see Cwmfelin being represented at these services!
Today children from classes 1 to 6 joined in with over 230,000 children in participating in the Urdd's World Cup Jambori. With the men's football World Cup now just over two weeks away, pupils joined with new and old Welsh songs in their classrooms. The highlight of the event was signing 'Yma O Hyd' along with Dafydd Iwan live!

Today the very generous harvest donations that have been received throughout the last week were packaged by Year 6 pupils and delivered to Maesteg Foodbank, who were extremely grateful.
Our donation will be used to help those in need in Maesteg who visit the foodbank, located in Peniel Church on Station Street, Maesteg.
Today, Dosbarth Pump were lucky enough to have an online visit from Chris Elmore MP. Pupils have written letters to people in jobs who have to make a lot of decisions as part of our inquiry . Mr Elmore wrote back and agreed to speak to the class. He video called us from the Houses of Parliament and talked about what he does in his job, what decisions he has to make before answering questions we had prepared.
Dosbarth Pump really enjoyed meeting Chris and are looking forward to a few more visits from other professionals in the future.
